What is Quito sin mineria?

We are a group of organizations and people from the towns in the northwest of Quito that seek to defend the city from mining through a referendum.

What are we defending?

The Chocó Andino is one of Quito’s last forests and one of the most biodiverse spots in Ecuador.

  • It was declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO.
  • The last clean rivers of the area run thorugh the Chocó Andino.
  • It has more than 150 species of mammals, 90 species of reptiles, 120 species of amphibians, 640 species of birds and more than 3,000 plant species.
  • There are 18.000 people that live there and depend on agriculture and tourism

Why do we need a referendum?

Because it is important that we have a say in matters that affect our lives and futures.

Because we cannot allow one of the most biodiverse areas of the country to be destroyed.

What can you do to help?

You can donate to our campaign so we can keep talking about the Chocó Andino. We need all the resources we can get to make the referendum a reality and we have little time to do it. Every donation helps!
