The Chocó Andino is one of the last forests in Quito and is located in the northwest of the city.

  • This forest has been declared by UNESCO as the seventh biosphere reserve in Ecuador.
  • This area is where the water that feeds the rivers that flow towards the north coast of Ecuador is born.
  • Its soils provide natural food to Quito, Pedro Vicente Maldonado, Los Bancos, Mindo, among others.
  • In this forest, at least 266,000 tons of carbon are removed from the atmosphere annually, which helps reduce global warming.
